Tony is a graduate of both Harvard and Yale Universities. Anthony received J.D. Degree from Harvard Law School and BS and MS degrees in Mathematics from Yale. Tony came from a working-class Italian-American family in Newark, New Jersey

As a unique math whiz, Tony became a protégé of Professor Serve Lang, a world-renowned mathematician. His math gifts led him to join the law practice of Baker & McKenzie in Manhattan, New York City. His work ethics and winning legal talents brought him to the attention of Nabors Industries in Houston.

Anthony ladder of success began when he became Nabors president and chief operating officer in 1991. By 2013, Tony was in total charge of Nabors Industries and its subsidiaries. Tony’s leadership has made Nabors Industry, one of the world’s largest land-based drilling rig fleet and provider offshore drilling rigs in the United States and international markets.

Tony met and married his college girlfriend, Cynthia Carrafa who was a movie producer and soap-opera actress. Tony and Cynthia always believed in giving back, which accounts for their great philanthropic reputation. This drive proved to bear out when in 1997, their 24-week-old daughter, Carena Francesca was diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia (PVL).

PVL is a neurological disease caused by a lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain. As if this was not enough, Carena developed cerebral palsy which vastly impaired her motor skills, as well as other developmental delayed skills.

Carena, now past 8 years of age, is a fighter like her parents. She is learning to walk and talk, which is a miracle for a child with this disease. Tony stated that this fight for their daughter “caused a major change in our perceptions.” Even though distraught, Tony and his wife threw their business heartfelt attention into a goal of finding a cure for Carena and all children who suffer from this debilitating malady.

In researching PVL, Tony discovered that there was a lack of information into what he termed “DNA arithmetic” of this disorder. Shortly, all their arduous work soon led Tony and Cynthia to a hospital right in their backyard – Texas Children’s Hospital.

Tony soon met an ally in the research for PVL in the person of Dan Duncan. Dan was a self-made man who turned a small business into a multi-billion-dollar energy company that is one of the nation’s leading provider of energy services.

Like Tony, Dan was also a strong healthcare philanthropic supporter who created the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute which is the nation’s leading research establishment. Unfortunately Dan is now-deceased, but his family’s research and philanthropic successes live on.

Tony is now the current Director for the Texas Children’s Hospital. He remains an avid advocate for research and clinical programs to aide children with neurological disorders. Tony’s many other strategic planning initiatives include the following: He serves as a director of Stewart & Stevenson LLC and of Hilcorp Energy Company. He also serves as Director of MediaOnDemand.com.
